Andrew- Aquatics Director

February 5, 2019

Andrew has been with CSS since before we opened our doors in 2013. He was an instructor for several years before earning promotions to Head Instructor and then Aquatics Director. He oversees the training of our aquatics staff and ensures that we are current in the latest techniques and trends.

Andrew not only runs our aquatics program, he is also a Certified Pool Operator and is in charge of our pump room. He holds a lifeguard certification, as well.

Andrew LOVES to talk all things swimming, so if you have any questions regarding strokes, techniques, drowning education, etc, he is your guy! In his spare time, Andrew is usually flying, working out, hanging out with his nephew, or traveling.

Steph Scarbrough

February 5, 2019

Steph and her husband, Brent, established Colorado Swim School in 2013. The impetus for the swim school was their inability to find high quality swim lessons in the area that met the needs of both of their children, one of whom is on the autism spectrum. With the help of their friends who own the Houston Swim Club, they opened CSS in August of 2013 and haven’t looked back!

Steph loves teaching and interacting with kids of all ages, and enjoys the fast paced rhythm of the swim school. She loves that every day at CSS is a new experience and she is extremely grateful for the opportunity to have met SO many wonderful families over the years!

Steph is a lifelong learner. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in History with a minor in Psychology, as well as a Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology. She was an elementary school teacher for 10 years before opening the swim school. She is a certified pool operator and has earned multiple certifications through the United States Swim School Association.

In her spare time, Steph can be found carting her kids to soccer and other activities, practicing yoga, going to see live music, spending time outdoors, or relaxing with her family and dogs.

Pufferfish

January 25, 2019

Ages 3 – 5 years

Perpetual Weekly Lessons or Everyday Session

Prerequisite: Guppy

The Pufferfish level is designed for swimmers who have completed an Everyday Session but are still fearful, are unable to perform skills without full assistance from their instructor, and/or are reluctant to put their faces and ears in the water. This class moves at a slower pace than Clown Fish, allowing instructors time to establish trust, build confidence, and encourage comfort in the water. Through the use of fun activities, songs, props, and strategic teaching methods, instructors gradually release the level of assistance provided, encouraging confidence and independence.

As with all of our beginner levels, Pufferfish emphasizes safety skills including listening, following directions, safer entry and exit, and what to do in the case of an accidental submersion. These children typically are not quite ready to swim, however we do slowly introduce fundamental swimming skills including breath control, body position, buoyancy, kicking, assisted back floats, and rolling from back to front and front to back.

We HIGHLY recommend Pufferfish swim 2x per week.

Perpetual Weekly Lessons

January 24, 2019

Our year-round program is based on perpetual enrollment and your commitment is on a monthly basis. Once your child is enrolled in a weekly, non-session class, he will be enrolled in that class until either he promotes, or we are given notice of a schedule change or withdrawal. For example, if your child is enrolled Mondays at 3:00 with Ms. Liz, he is committed to swimming at 3:00 every Monday of the month with Ms. Liz until we are notified of a change in schedule or he promotes. We do not allow students to swim bi-monthly. Additionally, if you choose to withdraw your child early, you will not be given credit or a refund for any remaining classes in the month. Essentially, once tuition has been charged to your card, you are committed for the month.

In the interest of your child’s progress and the dynamics of our classes, we ask that once committed to a class you make every effort to attend your child’s regularly scheduled class consistently. For beginners or fearful kiddos, we HIGHLY recommend swimming 2x per week.

Important Information Regarding Perpetual Lessons:

  • Students MUST commit to an entire calendar month once registered.
  • Schedule changes will not be allowed mid-month.
  • We do not allow bi-monthly enrollments – students must swim at least one day per week in the month.
  • Tuition must be pre-paid on the 23rd of the month in order to hold a spot for the following month. (E.g. February tuition MUST be received by January 23rd.)
  • Monthly tuition will vary based upon the number of classes attended in a calendar month. The number of classes per month will vary depending on the day of each class.
  • Monthly tuition will only be pro-rated when initially enrolling in a class in the middle of a month.

Schedule Changes and Withdrawals

  • Schedule changes will not be allowed mid-month.
  • We must be notified of any schedule change by the 15th of the month to be effective the following month. For example, to change your swimmers’ class day/time for Februrary, we must be notified by January 15th.
  • All withdrawals MUST be submitted in writing by the 15th of the month to be effective the following month.
  • Withdrawals forms may be submitted online or completed in person at CSS.

Promotions

  • When students are promoted to the next level, we will contact you by the 20th of the month so you can make a schedule change for the following month.
  • Swimmers will receive a certificate on their last class of the month when promoting to a new level.
  • Instructors continually assess and evaluate students’ skills

Automatic Payment – Class Commitment

  • We charge tuition to your card on file on the 23rd of the month for the following month.
  • Once tuition is charged for the upcoming month, you have committed to your child’s class for the month.
  • We do not allow schedule changes mid month, and will not issue a refund or credits if you drop before completing your scheduled classes for the month.
  • Your tuition is based on enrollment (guaranteed spot) and not a reflection of attendance.
